   What else is new? This happens everyday and bus drivers don’t do a thing. I’m sure they know how to construe the fine print of those “contracts” of theirs to read that they need not lift a finger to help a kid whose entire life could be changed by one incident the A**hole driver sits by and watches.

   Not only should this case be prosecuted as child neglect, a suit should also be brought on behalf of the parents and child as a HATE CRIME. I’m quite sure evidence can be gathered to show that these little punks conspired to attack this little white kid.

   It was a heart breaking thing to watch and I can tell you right now, they’d never hire me in Gulfport to drive a school bus because there would be some SERIOUS tactics being used by me to stop incidents like these BEFORE they even begin

   GULFPORT IS JUST ANOTHER PART OF THE SOUTH ST ST PETERSBURG CESSPOOL….. JUST A TAD SOUTH OF IT- NICE BEACHES- HOLE OF A CITY… BEEN THERE SEVERAL TIMES..

   Bus drivers are afraid to be fired and arrested.

   Cece - Nothing to do with contracts; it’s company policy where I work (I am a driver AND an instructor). As you saw, they contemplated charging the driver. However, if the driver _did_ intervene, and the CHILDREN got hurt, you can bet your life that the driver would be prosecuted, sued civilly, AND fired. If I did intervene and got hurt, I’d have yet another problem on my hands: you see, the bus company considers drivers “part time employees” so no health insurance! You _are_ correct, however: they would never hire you. Most bus drivers would LOVE to do something, but there is no such thing as a “good samaritan law” for bus drivers.

   It is a very fine line, but the attack was so brutal that he should have done something. He wouldn’t have been prosecuted if he used force on the attackers to protect that boy.

   It’s not possible to know ahead of time if you will or will not be prosecuted. Sometimes (and this looks like one of them), you just have to take the risk and do the right (moral) thing and risk the consequences. BTW, there are other things that drivers are not “allowed” to do that I have already decided that I WOULD do should the situation arise.
